Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are pleased to inform you that one of your child’s teachers has chosen to participate in the United Nations Association in Canada – National Capital Region Branch’s essay writing and art contest, titled “The Role of the United Nations in the 21st Century”. The contest is open to secondary students (Grades 9-12) in the National Capital Region, and, provides high school students with an opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings, hopes and perspectives – in English and/or French - on the role of the United Nations in making the world a better, safer, more supportive and sustainable place for all of its inhabitants. There is no entry fee and no obligation to participate.
Contest Rules: All work must be original! Only one entry per student will be accepted. Written submissions must be 1000 words or less. Artistic submissions must be completed on white 11”x17” paper (maximum size). All entries must be accompanied by an entry form, which has been signed by the student’s parent and/or guardian for students under 18 years of age. We hope to publish the top written and/or artistic entries in an inexpensive, soft-cover, collection. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
Please have your child return his/her work along with a completed entry form to the teacher, or mail it directly to the UNAC-NCRB, by Friday, April 30th, 2010. Entries must be postmarked by this date to be accepted. Thank you in advance for allowing your child to participate in this activity.
Sincerely,
Executive Committee, UNAC-NCRB
