2nd Annual Sustainable High Schools Conference

On October 16, 2009, Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School (SWL), in partnership with the Sierra Youth Coalition, will be host to the 2nd Annual Sustainable High Schools Conference. The conference will provide training to students to enhance their capacities to lead successful sustainability initiatives at their schools and create opportunities for Anglophone and Francophone students from public and Catholic school boards to connect and learn from each other. The goal of the Sustainable High Schools Conference is not just to "raise awareness" about sustainability issues, but rather to help student leaders build networks and skills that will help them develop and implement more effective projects and policies.
I am writing you to invite delegates from the Ottawa Catholic School Board to attend the conference and also to ask for your support in promoting the event with your schools and teachers. We hope that schools from all Ottawa boards - English and French, public and Catholic - will attend the conference so as to create a strong network of schools working to create healthier, fairer, more environmentally sustainable school communities.
I have attached the following materials; please feel free to distribute them through the OCSB networks:
An invitation to the Sustainable High Schools Conference on October 16
A brief overview of the Sustainable High Schools Project
A brief overview of the High School Climate Challenge
Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me; you can reach me by phone at the number below.
Thank you, and take care,
Erica Nickels
