Contest for Funds! Metro (Loeb) Green Apple School Program

AN IDEA TODAY KEEPS THE WASTE AWAY
Metro invests $1 million into the Green Apple School Program
(TORONTO) September 10, 2009 – Today, Metro Inc. officially launched its Green Apple School Program, an environmental initiative designed to encourage elementary and secondary schools to participate in conservation and healthy living. By investing $1 million into the program, Metro will provide grants to Ontario schools that can demonstrate how their proposals will positively impact their school or community.
"This initiative is part of Metro’s ongoing commitment to protect and respect the environment and we believe this program will engage students in active environmental stewardship," said Johanne Choinière, Senior Vice President, Metro Ontario Inc. "We are excited to see what creative projects young Ontarians will develop – because a healthier environment means healthier living for everyone."
Metro will award individual grants of $1,000 to schools that meet the program criteria and demonstrate how they plan to contribute to a healthier environment. The grant funding will go towards supporting the implementation of the class or group project.
The program begins on September 10, 2009 and concludes on March 1, 2010. All publicly funded or privately registered elementary or secondary schools in Ontario are eligible to apply. Early entries will have the best chance of being chosen, based on a first come, first served approach.
