Climate Change Event, October 24

ºC-Day: Fill The Hill
C-Day: Fill the Hill is the focal point of the largest climate
action to ever take place on Canadian soil. Climate Day is
about Canadians Coming together to demand Change. It is
a Culmination, a Critical mass, a Call for action, a Cultural
tipping point. C-Day is about active Citizenship. We need to
show the world that Canada Cares about its Children and
the future of Earth. Join us as we Converge on Parliament Hill
to demand government Commitment to a Cooler earth and
Climate justice.
OUR GOALS FOR CANADIANS:
• Greater awareness and understanding of the climate crisis
• Active citizenship: Fill Parliament Hill on October 24, sign the KYOTOplus petition,
and engage Canadians in a letter writing campaign to their Members of
Parliament
• Spreading the story and spirit of C-Day nationwide through word of mouth
OUR GOALS FOR CANADA’S PARLIAMENT:
• Mitigation - GHG Reduction targets based on science, not political convenience
o Establish a clear national program in place to actually meet these targets
o Canada needs to lead, follow, or get out of the way so that we can have
a strong, binding global agreement in Copenhagen
• Adaptation - Equitable climate action
o Investment now in adaptation strategies domestically and internationally,
with a focus on support for the world's poorest people
o Ensure that international negotiations and targets are fair and
accountable
• Transition to a green economy
o Fulfill the need for green jobs, skills training and just transition for workers
o Power Canada with renewable energy and launch massive
improvements in conservation and efficiency to stop wasting so much
energy
o Apply green solutions to urban design and transportation nation-wide

Saturday, October 24th, 2009 is International Day of Climate Action (www.350.org). Across the globe, people will be congregating to show their concern for climate change and their hope for a safer future. °C-Day has been registered as one of the official Actions for International Day of Climate Action. It will be a peaceful demonstration and public plea for strong climate policy. We are inviting Canadians to gather on Parliament Hill in order to show our government that we support proactive, internationally acceptable climate policy. This is especially important as we countdown towards to the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen this December.
